Pre-Hydroseeding Preparation Guide
Getting Your Yard Ready
We provide hydroseed application only, which means how your lawn turns out depends heavily on how the ground is prepped before we arrive. The three factors below matter most.
Three Simple Steps for the Best Possible Results
1. Topsoil Depth
Have a minimum of 4 inches of quality topsoil across the whole area for best results. That’s what gives new grass room to root and grow strong, especially in our region’s heavier clay soil.
If desired, we can add soil boosters to our hydroseeding mixture to help “pack a lunch” for the new grass seeds.
2. Roll to Firm, Even Ground
Run a lawn roller over the area so the soil is firm and level, giving seed the solid contact it needs. Aim for firm underfoot, but not hard as pavement. Too loose or too compacted both make it harder for grass to establish.
Your foot should sink about 1/4″ into the soil when you walk on it.
3. Water Before We Arrive
Give the area a deep watering right before your appointment so the ground is moist, not dry. Hydroseed bonds and germinates best on damp soil.
Additionally, they hydroseeding mixture applies more evenly on damp soil.
Also make sure:

✓ Anything movable you don’t want overspray on, like patio furniture, planters, or toys, is out of range
